Microscopy Meets Materials

For centuries scientists have used microscopes to explore the hidden world of small dimensions. Today the science of microscopy is an essential link between understanding of structures and properties of materials and tailoring them for real world applications. Accordingly, our main research activities are devoted to developing new microscopic characterisation methods, functional nanostructures, and the practical applications of advanced microscopy.

Research is a collaborative endeavour, both within our organisation and, to a greater extent, with scientific partners on a national and international level. FELMI-ZFE is currently engaged in a number of research projects, many of which are funded. A selection of these projects is available for further exploration via the provided link.

Research Projects

The development of versatile methods and workflows for the characterisation of a wide variety of materials is imperative, with the understanding that these methods may require adaptation to align with the specific requirements of the material under consideration. A synopsis of these approaches can be accessed here.

Methods for Material Characterisation

To get reliable scientific results, experiments must be done properly, all methods must be explained clearly, and all data must be made available.
We regularly disseminate our results of our work in papers and on conferences – some of the most imported articles we summarized.
