Advancing Techniques for Characterizing Catalysts in Transmission Electron Microscopy
Abstract:
Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) has developed into a cornerstone tool for catalysis research. As the properties of catalysts largely depend on the local structure, the atomic resolution of TEM offers unique possibilities of characterization. However, there exist limitations in the use of TEM in this context, including image interpretation and unwanted beam damage effects. In this seminar talk will be addressed, how the use of image simulation can aid interpreting the structure of gold nanoparticles for electrocatalysis. Furthermore, it will be shown, how the use of electrostatic beam blanking can mitigate beam damage in MoS2, and the implications of this in the framework of beam damage theory will be discussed.
